Suffering is optional
Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional
Pain and suffering are not synonymous. The first is a fact of life, the second is a response.
I might experience pain through rejection. It happens frequently. That's part of humanity.
Suffering takes place when I internalize rejection. That is, suffering is an optional side-effect of pain.
I'm sure there are amazing people who have undergone a great deal of suffering, but I'd argue not many.
Pain slows us down a finite amount,
Suffering slows us down as much as we let it.
Losing a job sucks. It means you might not have anything to do for a few weeks or months.
There's nothing you can do to change losing your job. But if you spiral, wallow, and suffer, you might do nothing for years.
Letting go, we omit suffering. Moving on, we make life a bit more fun.
We choose our adventure.
